AD Buster

The advertisement I used is from Self magazine and is selling the product tampons for Tampax Pearl. I decided to take the AD and changed it to selling a whole new product, Zantrex-3, a high-energy fat burner.  When I first looked at this AD I was confused on what product was being sold. I’ll I saw in the AD was a skinny, happy, energetic, and active woman being starred at with jealousy.  The tampon AD was showing that you can be active and carefree when using their tampons.  I changed the meaning of the AD to look like the center girl is thin, not hungry, really energetic, and happy and the women in the background are jealous because they are hungry and have no energy to be playing around. The audience for this AD is directed towards woman of all ages. Men and children are completely left out on this AD. The main emotions that come across in the AD are happiness and excitement.

The Body Project

I chose to focus my project on the pressures of society and media that are put on celebrity’s image, from their bodies to their looks.  The life a celebrity lives is all about being in the public eye therefore they are constantly being judge and critiqued whether the want to be or not.  Because celebrities have no way of avoiding the media attention they are constantly trying to perfect themselves.
For my first image I choose to focus on how the media will try to create flaws within celebrities. In one of the magazines there was a page, which I used for the image on top and its purpose was to match the celebrity face to these unflattering picture of body parts. I also used a photo of cameron diez because in one article it discussed how her body is too fit. Then I used photos of nikki manage and katy perry showing which I felt portrayed their idea that the more extravagant and crazy they look the more attention they will receive, enough is never enough.
For the Second image I used shows celebrities physical reshaping and twicking their bodies/faces to what they think is “perfection”.  Plastic surgery is a strong commodity in celebrity’s lives. With so much pressure this is a common solution celebrities will choose to change what makes them insecure in their bodies.
The third image emphasizes how much celebrities are affected by being thin.  Weight is probably the biggest issue they deal with because the second a celeb gains a pound or loses a pound rumors start, from being pregnant to having a disorder. The photos on this image show how these 2 celebrities lost their weight rapidly after only a few weeks of giving birth.  For most people its natural to have a slow weight lose and its also health but celebs are in a fast past environment and have that pressure to shed the weight fast.
In the last image it tried to portray how in the media average bodies we see everyday are not good enough.  This girl photographed is on dancing with the stars is often criticized for her body and being over weight, where clearly she is fit and thin. In the second photograph there is an average man at the beach and it shows David Beckam starring and the added caption is making fun of him.
The celebrity lifestyle is not a very usual and average way people live but it’s sad to see the constant challenges and situations they go through. There is so much attention to their lives, they are not normal and we watch them and their bodies then try to compare ourselves and it’s unrealistic.

Texture
Texture is a very important element because it can bring intensity or realness to a photo. When there is more texture, the photo is brought to life. I tried to get closer to my object so while photographing I could show all the different textures. I chose to photograph the different parts on one of the flowers close up so I could get detailed texture where it’s more noticeable.  In the photos you can tell that the flowers I chose were fake. You can see the texture of the silk knowing it’s fake but from far away or all together they look like real flowers.

Lighting
I chose lighting for my first element because lighting can change a lot of aspects in a photo. Lighting can change the way someone looks at a photo by illuminating a certain side, color, or focus point and it can also hide or bring less attention to part of a photo.  Lighting also sets the mood of a picture.  I photographed the flowers in sunlight, natural light, and lit light to show the difference of where your eye goes and how you feel about a picture.  The natural light photo is my favorite because I think it really brings out the vibrant colors but I also really like the sunlight because the morning sun brought in shadows, which I find makes the photo more interesting.
